Thinking positive!

You may have noticed on the side of my blog, I have a button about being a sunflower blogger, this button was created by the blogger Sarah Mullaney  (click the link for more information) in which she started a little project anyone can join which helps promotes positivity: whether it be thoughts, health or your own happiness. All you have to do is once a month write up a post once a month about something that is going well for you or of a optimist nature.

Now if you know me you'll know I'm not the most positive thinking person (like at all) in fact I've actually made positive thinking one of my 2014 goals. So I thought this was the perfect way to not only help you guys out but me as well. To be honest I have no idea how I'm going to do this or what to write in this post, I'm actually just winging it and hoping for the best really.

Being positive is not one of the easiest things to do when you're having a hard time with work, uni/collage/school, family or just with yourself. But you've just got to remember as rubbish as everything looks now, it gets better and bigger and better things are too come!

I surround myself with things that make me happy: puns, food, reading, music and a bit of online shopping. Is that so wrong?! Hopefully this is okay for the first post, the next will get better, I promise!

A Trip to the V&A Museum!

Warning: Picture heavy!

Thursday I got to go to the V&A museum on a trip with college and I enjoyed it so much I felt I needed to do share it with you! I reduced 160 photos to what is hopefully enough or not too many photos for you. I chose all my favourite photos out of the select few so I could do it justice; although I do wish I had brought my larger camera!

We went for the 80s exhibiton, unfortunately we were unable to take any photos in that part. But that doesn't bother me too much because to be honest i wasn't that impressed, not compared to what I had seen already in the rest of the museum, there were some amazing things from all over the world!

If you're in London and you love history, then you should definitely check it out! It's also free which is definitely a plus, right?!

OOTD - monochrome with a splash of colour and lace!

shirt - Asda
Leather trousers - Topshop (old)
Vans - Old

I can't be the only one who struggles with naming posts, do I try to be witty, do I do a quote, it's too complicated!

How gorgeous is this shirt by the way?! I love the monochrome pattern with the splash of colour on certain bits and the detailed lace paneling. It was love at first sight really! I would never see this on someone and think oh thats from Asda. Asda you are really uping your game recently, well done you! It's oversized so its perfect tucked in maybe a skirt, or untucked, over a pair of leather trousers like I've done here.

I think it's an effortless chic look, perfect for any day whether you be popping to see family or you're running errands all days. I paired with my purple vans to keep it a casual look but you can easily dress it up with maybe a blazer or classic heels for an evening meal or getting together with friends!

This is definitely an outfit I'll be wearing a lot this year, especially going into spring!

OOTD - £5 bargain

Dress - Primark

Yes this dress was only £5 and probably one of my biggest bargains! For only £5 this dress ticks so many boxes: It's comfy fabric, the perfect length and super flattering. In fact I got complimented on it several times and all were shocked to find out its from Primark.

I just love how the cobalt blue are such a bold gorgeous colour and really stand out, especially in this picture. Also the fact that it's not full of print is a bonus, it's just a nice everyday outfit, perfect for when you're running late or don't want to make loads of effort but still look nice or even as a the base of layering for the colder weather!

I'd definitely recommend picking up one, they have plenty of choice in colour and pattern!

College week 9

Okay so admittedly I've missed out a couple of weeks and the only excuse I have is I forgot and took no photos! Terrible I know. But that means from now it's all going to start up again!

A lot of my lessons this week have been about creating my own artist response, which is what the too left is supposed to be. I, personally, can't not laugh at it or think its terrible every time  I see, but my lecturer said it was really good, how?!

Fashion illustration has also been a big part of this week and playing around with the different features on photoshop has been a major part of it, I have no idea what i'm doing at all, but I did like how mine came out (top right)

In theory we've been doing a lot of analysing key piece from different eras such as the modernist movement or the Christian Diors new look of the 50s, which is leading up to us doing our own essay! In thinking of doing the rockabilly and pin up fashion of the 50s, my favourite kind of clothes!

REVIEW- Hats off to murder - D S Nelson an Ebook

So if you saw my post on Sunday, you would know that I wanted to bring books and my blog together, hence the start of a little book series on my blog and this is the beginning of it all!

At first glance I knew this wasn't something I would choose to read, that's not to say I didn't enjoy it. It's a fantastically written novelette and is written different to any other murder story I have read!

Without giving to much away, the story is told by someone who owns a store of hats, each new chapter is linked to a different hat and gives you another clue to the puzzle. What I liked about the story is that nothing is given away too early and you find out part of the story when He does and how he managed to piece it altogether, almost as if you were were with him at the time!

Being only 35 pages, this is the perfect novelette to read when you are in between books or travelling a short distance on the bus!

You should definitely check out D S Nelsons other e-books on amazon HERE

I hope this wasn't too bad for my first review and did the book justice, I'm sure I'll get better at doing them the more I do, practice makes perfect right?!

My Everyday Make up!

So here it is My everyday make up, I didn't want to show you guys a tutorial because well I'm useless at those, so I thought a photo format would be good too. I get to show you what it looks like and the products I used just as I would have if I was doing a video.

Okay so by 'everyday' I mean when I can be bothered to do more then concealer and mascara, I'm low maintenance okay?! I can't be doing with all that fuss. Honestly I don't do much at all, I often will add a lipstick or lip tint if my lips are in good enough condition, if you like. If you get serious chapped lips I would definitely recommend the LUSH lip scrub, it smells great and really works!

If you want to check out my reviews on the LUSH Lip scrub click here and The Colour supplement click here!

Has anyone tried the ELF eyebrow kit? What are your thoughts?

OOTD - I have no clothes!

Top - Primark (old)
Joni Jeans - Topshop
All Black Converse - Schuh

Today I had one of those days, you know them, the ones where you have a wardrobe full but still no clothes! My bed was (and still is) a pile of dresses, tops, jeans, shorts and shoes, a task I don't particular want to tackle. But I have already planned my outfits for the next two days, so there should be no more Courtneys sitting on the floor wanting to cry in anguish.

In the end I just went with a simple tee and jeans, you can't really go wrong right? The tee making me feel like its summer and there may be a blue sky out there, however there is none. I'm sorry but a month of constant rain is not cool okay?! I of course just paired it with my all black converse and parka coat and was ready to go!

What do you do in a 'crisis' like this?!

A new Sunday feature!

(Found on Google images)

Something you may or may not know about me, is that I read all the time! Books are something I love, nothing beats sitting in bed or on the sofa lost in a good book. I love Reading and I love blogging, so why not join the two. Genius. no? I really want to branch my blog into other sectors of blogging, like lifestyle and this is the perfect way to start!

So I thought I would start doing book based posts on a Sunday, I need a catchy name that I can use so if you have any ideas let me know, in which I will maybe let you know what book I'm reading at the moment or maybe a review. I have a review coming up, that I'll probably put up next week, so look out for that! But then after that it'll be on Sundays.

That reminds me I need to start and upload my blogging schedule!

If you have any name ideas for what to call this little series let me know in the comments!

OOTD - Comfy Cinema outfit!

Dress - Primark
Converse - Schuh
Choker - Topshop
I finally got to see Frozen today and what a beautiful film it was! Disney just keeps getting better and better can we also take a minute to appreciate their hair?! I might go again Sunday and take my brother, i enjoyed it that much!

I chose to wear this dress, which is a £5 bargain by the way, its a comfy jersey skater dress, with a plant/floral pattern? I just wore it with my super cosy tights, putting on brand new super cosy tights is one of the wonders of the world and my converse. I was thinking Docs but I like to be as comfy as I can in the cinema, almost as if I was at home.
I kept jewellery simple with this velvet and gold chain choker, I'm still not sure how I feel about it, I don't like things round my neck its constricting and uncomfortable but I just love how these looks!

OOTD - spikes galore and kimonos.

o
Top - Dorothy Perkins
Joni Jeans - Topshop
Necklace - New Look

Kimono - Primark (old)

Look it's my first OOTD of 2014, it's a pretty casual outfit basically just jeans and a top. However adding this spike statement necklace, I received for Christmas, adds a special touch to what would be a pretty boring outfit. I just paired it with a pair of converse, however in hindsight I should have worn my Docs or Chelsea boots, depending on the look I was going for. The weather is terrible out there! Is it just me or is the weather referred to at least one in a blog post?!

I added the last photo because I completely forgot I had this kimono and discovered it after I took these outfit photos on my way out, I really like the extra touch it gives to this outfit and I think I'll be outfit repeating a lot over the winter!

How would you guys style a kimono like this? I'm thinking with my fluffy asos jumper when it gets super cold?

2014 - Make it "your" year!

You're probably getting sick of these new year 'resolution' posts, so hopefully you can suffer through just one more? Maybe? I actually think this kind of posts are kind of important and really interesting, not only are they a very personal post and let you get to know the 'person behind the blog' so to speak but its a set of goals that you have committed too by writing them down!

So I'm currently sat here listening to Dean Martin, I'm an old girl at heart, thinking over what my personal goals of 2014 could be! I did attempt to have 'resolutions' last year but honestly that did not work out, no surprise there though, I'd never done them before and I can see why now. So I thought maybe setting something that is achievable and personal to me and not the usual, get fit or eat more healthy. so without further ado...

My goals of 2014:
  1. Be more positive - I'm a pretty negative person, actually I might be queen of pessimism.
  2. Don't let myself hold me back - The last year I felt I've really struggled with this. I've never been the most outgoing or the one who talks about feelings. Gross. But especially the last year every time I'd been invited out with friends or when I was at college, I had this horrible feeling come over me where I felt something bad was going to happen and I would find any means to get out of it. So this year I'm determined not to let this stop me from festivals, holidays or days out.
  3. Make my own clothes - I've always wanted to be able to do this and during 2013 I dabbled in a bit of sewing and made a few things but I wont be wearing them outside any time soon. There not exactly the best work I could of done. Thankfully we do quite a bit of sewing at college so I'm always learning new skills and feel this is something I can really achieve!
  4. Read more books - I love books and I read all the time, however I've found actual books have gone on the back burner since you can read practically anything online and for free now-a-days. That's not to say I didn't read any books in '13 but not like I used to, I wouldn't be seen without a book when I was younger!
  5. Write more down - I've always wanted to keep a diary, but I found every time I tried, no words came to me! So I thought I'd start out little and not force myself to write, but instead to write down my thoughts when I need too. I mean I can ramble on about nothing on here sometimes and I have a little rant on another social networking site, so why should writing it down be any different?!
  6. Be more adventurous with my outfit choices - I feel this is something I have been gradual achieving every day, week, month, year. I'm a whole lot more adventurous with my clothes then I used too and I will wear whatever I like with whatever, now-a-days. However  still hold myself back from certain things, still worried about what people think of me, mainly at college and in my area. Does that sound silly?
  7. Improve my photography - Photography is part of my college course now, so that exciting, I'm learning new skills every lesson which I hope to put across into my blog as the year goes on. Hopefully there will be significant difference.
  8. Blog more then last year - Looking back on the amount of times i blogged, I saw it was very little compared to the year before when i started my blog. I did a lot less OOTD's and had a lack of inspiration. However that is going to change this year! I hope.
  9. Keep to a blogging schedule - I've planned a blogging schedule, which I will be posting soon, which I plan to stick too and to pre-plan my posts, instead of sitting down and hoping for the best, hence a lot less posts!
Have you guys done any goals for the new year?

2013 highlights!

First off Happy New Year to everyone and I hope you're all not hanging too much and if you are hope last night was worth it! I hope 2014 will be even better or a good year for you all and I hope it's "your" year!

2013 has been a year of bad news and good news, good times and bad for everyone around the world. I think a situation is as good or as bad as you make it, of course bad news is going to ruin your mood and cause all sorts of worries, but how you deal with it makes the situation and year! Wise words of wisdom of Courtney Reid, well that's how I try to think anyway!

The beginning of the year I was still studying at college in a course, I really didn't enjoy! However I cant deny I had some great times and made some Good friends, so I cant say I regret ever doing this. I just felt a career in animals was not for me and I still love animals as much as I first did probably even more. I finally finished the 2 years in June with a merit overall!

In May I turned 18, which really didn't feel any different as I'm not a massive drinker anyway so no difference was made at all! I spent the day at Longleat (one of my favourite places) with the college and my friends and then the evening at the Smith and Western with my family and a really good steak! My kind of day!

"Happiness can be found in the darkest of times if one remembers to turn on the light"
I finally got my first tattoo, I'd been waiting for this since I was 16 and I was so happy with the result! If you can tell me what film/book and who said it then we are book soulmates! Comment if you know! I can't wait for others that I have planned, however money is a big downer, to the disgust of my muv and family. Sorry guys, I'm not that much of a wimp as we thought!

I went copper, this was a massive deal for me! The extent to my hair I had done was highlights to make my hair even blonder, so I threw myself into the deep end and dyed all my hair a whole new colour! Although, I'm going back blonde this year, I still love this colour but it's far to high maintenance for me. If you're blonde and you're thinking about going this colour then I'd take into consideration that the nice colour lasts for about a week and you'll be wanting to dye it often!

I joined YouTube, this was and still is super scary for me! Although I enjoy uploading videos, it really is just for hauls and tags, It's not a serious thing like my blog is, that's not saying I wont be uploading regularly!

I went to Lanzarote with my Nan for a chilled holiday and a tour round Lanzarote, it really is a gorgeous place and was unlike any of my other holidays! I included some of my favourite photos of the holiday!

I went to Weymouth for the week, with my dad, we stayed in a very Dirty dancing esc place.

I started a new college course, studying fashion and clothing and I love it! I have yet to come across something I haven't liked and I feel this is the career path for me. I've met some lovely people,  who understand my love of fashion and people who blog themselves; its great being able to talk about my blog to people and they understand the blogging idea!

I got to see Jessie J, thankyou my best friend, I'm a massive Jessie J fan and she truely didn't disappoint and exceeded any expectations I had!

Christmas was of course a highlight for me, it is in my opinion one of the best times of the year, I love the atmosphere, the family time, the food and the presents I wont lie. This year was a lot more chilled out then normal and I was not feeling my best and I didn't let it get me down!

Hope you had a wonderful year!
