Becoming vegetarian - 1 Year on






If you're a regular reader or follow me on Twitter you might know I became vegetarian about a year ago now. So I thought I would just do a little update post per say: 

Why - 
I chose to become vegetarian for ethical reasons, I was a big eater before but I was a hypocrite. I didn't like to think of beef/chicken/pork as animal, it was just something I got from the supermarket in a restaurant. However it got to a point in my life where I felt guilty eating meat and seeing pigs at a pig farm made me sad and I made the decision that day to go vegetarian. I don't believe any animal has the right to die so we can eat it. Why would you eat cows if you wouldn't eat dogs? What really is the difference?

My experience -
For the first month or so I didn't completely cut it out, I'd still have a full roast on Sundays and if I was eating out at any point I'd still have a steak. I kind of eased myself into it, I suppose so it didn't feel so drastic; my family are meat eaters, I'd never really known any different. After a few months of not eating meat you barely even think about it, it's not something I miss and having a substitute like Quorn or not at all really is the norm now. In fact I've found myself cooking more and trying new things, I have a stew recipe here if you'd like to check it out. 

The only real problem I have being vegetarian and it really is down to being a super fussy eater is eating out and finding variety in my meals. When eating out I often end up with 3 or 4 side dishes as I rarely like any of the veggie options on the menu, although it definitely is a lot cheaper now! 

Other people -
People's reaction to me becoming vegetarian is completely bizarre. I'm not one of those that are going to push my thoughts and opinions on to you, you do you at the end of the day. While I wish everyone stopped eating meat completely I know that's not really going to happen. 
However when people are rude or make sly comments it gets my back up and then I'm prepared to fight my case and be as explicit as I want. 
However its remarkable how many people pull faces at you after asking or it being mentioned. Or that cliche question of "what about bacon?". I've also had a well your not going to save the world comment. 1. I'm not trying to save the world just end the suffering 2. what's wrong with wanting to save the world?! 

I've luckily never had any abuse or bad experiences like those that I've heard of and most people are generally quite excepting. 

What now?
My next aim is to cut out diary and eggs from my diet. While I don't eat eat cheese, butter, yogurt or drink milk, I do have it in when its in food and I do eat ice cream now and then. I'm a fussy eater and hate trying new things so I won't be completely vegan any time soon but in the long run that is my goal. 

Advice

  • Make sure you are doing it for you and not because you feel forced into it. If you're not 100% committed you probably will fail. 
  • You don't have to go 'cold turkey' ease yourself into it cut it down to a few meatless meals a week and so on until you feel you can go completely with out.  
  • Check your food packaging, you'll be surprised how many things have gelatin in even when you wouldn't think so.

Disneyland Paris tips -



The other weekend me and the best friend went to Disneyland Paris, as my 21st birthday present and celebration, it was the first time for both of us, so we didn't really know what to expect and pretty high expectations. After doing a little research online and hearing from friends and family, here are a few tips we picked up along the way that might be useful to you.

  • Early access to the parks is the perfect time to take your photos as you have less randoms in your photos and is the perfect time to take those typically tourist photos.
  • A few characters are out at this time to be able to meet too.
  • They close off sections of the park during the early access, keeping you within the castle. This was kind of annoying when you want to beat the queues for those bigger rides. 
  • This however is the perfect time to get the Buzz Lightyear ride in, it often from 45 minute queues when it was open to the public. 
  • Download the Disney app, you can find out where everything is, if it's open or how long the waits are. Its a life saver.
  • Check out dlpguide.com it's a great website to read before you go tells you everything you need to know, including menus. Which I found super helpful. 
  • The Hotel Cheyenne is the 2nd cheapest Disney hotel, but that in no way reflects the hotel. I kind of thought it'd be a little outdated but it look amazing both in and outside. They're also currently refurbishing and we got a free upgrade to one of the newly done rooms so that was fab. Don't let it being the cheaper one put you off in anyway. 
  • As a fussy eater and vegetarian, I'd done a little research into what the food was like and it didn't have the best response, I went into it thinking I would only eat chips for the weekend, But I was pleasantly surprised. Yes I did have chips multiple times a day but there was vegetables, potatoes, cheeses, pizza all the good stuff.
  • I highly recommend paying extra for Disney express, its so great being able to drop your luggage off and go straight to the park knowing it'll be dropped at the hotel. But it's even better when you have to check out by 11am and you have an evening train home as it'll get taken to the station for you and you don't need to drag it round the park with you.
  • Go for breakfast at 7. This was told to me by someone I know and we managed to beat the mad rush that starts to appear at about quarter past.
  • If you don't mind separating from your friends when on rides then they have the option to go in the single ride line.
  • Book the Wild West show on the Disney website when booking the holiday, its cheaper then booking it in the park.
  • If you're a meat eater and a meat and potato kinda guy/gal or anything you're going to get on well with the show. However if you're fussy or vegetarian, I'd be prepared to get a Mcdonalds after or a few hours before. I only ended up eating a handful of small potatoes and I'm not entirely convinced they weren't cooked with the meat. The Wild West show is a must though and I'd say worth the money.
  • If you book at Disney, don't bother picking the more expensive option. No way is the view obstructed and we payed the cheaper option and was on the 2nd row so. 
  • There is a Mcdonalds at the back of the Disney Village on your way to the hotels and it's the cheapest place to eat in the park. It's also not well publicised and a little hidden, so be aware that it is there. Lets be honest you can't beat eating something you know you're going to like. I'm so typically British.
  • Make Ratatouille your first ride as soon as its open, the queue was never below 100 minutes. We fast passed that one.
  • Also make Crush's Coaster one of your firsts of the day, because everyone seems to head there as soon as the park is open.
  • Fast pass is great if you don't want to queue, however the time your given is often the same or longer then the minutes you're in the line for. We got our ticket at about 12, for Ratatouille and didn't need to go back till 6 to half 6. It's really if you'd prefer to wait in line or do the odd thing while waiting. It's also free so that's a plus.
  • The Indiana Jones ride often ends up only having a 5 minute wait later in the day, so you don't need to queue for an hour like we did our first full day. 
  • Space Mountain also only often has a 5 minute queue time.

OOTD - Sundance



Last weekend I went to Disneyland Paris for the first time for my 21st birthday present. I had the most incredible time of my life, one that the memories will stick with me forever. It completely blew my expectations out the water, the rides were fab, the people were super friendly but what makes it so amazing is all in the detail. It really is like you've walked into another world. I've not laughed or been in so much pain ( we were walking pretty much 8 hours of the day) in a weekend. 

We booked the Wild West show, highly recommend by the way, for Saturday evening. I got this gorgeous patterned Culotte jumpsuit from Boohoo just before I left, I'm only 5ft and this sat at a length I'm very happy with especially as it wasn't in the petite section. Culottes are a new obsession of mine at the minute, they're surprisingly flattering and super comfortable. I'm not really a skirt or short wearer, especially not without tights, so these are perfect for me for the warmer weather.
I simply paired it with this ribbed crop top, I've had for ages, underneath and a pair of simple black shoes.

You are your limit!


I know my faults. If there is something that I know will make me uncomfortable and make me feel anxious, I will avoid it if I can. It's a horrible feeling so why would I do it if I don't have to?!

Anything that makes me the centre of attention, I am outta there! The amount of presentations at school and college that I've either blagged a day off or managed to talk my way out of is pretty damn high. Or how I've got someone else to order for me in a restaurant or paid for my shopping because the thought of doing it myself feels me with dread and fidgety.  Or the fact that If I don't know you I literally forget how to spell my own name or what my age is. Testimony to this statement I was in an airport last year and was asked my age, I told him I was 18 I was in fact 20.  I have cancelled dates with friends because I just couldn't bring myself to go. The list is endless. I like to fondly (not so much) refer to myself as socially inept. 

Anyway that's beside the point, this really is just a little post for me and maybe even you that no matter what you're feeling, you can do it! 

After nearly a year of job searching I've finally got myself my first job at Claires Accessories and it all kind of happened with in a week. I dropped in an application form, I got a call that day an interview two days later and was told they were offering me a job the day after that. 

I was dreading it! But I knew I needed to put myself out there not only because its necessary as an adult, but to help me too. I know I'm not good at interviews, I hate meeting new people, I don't come across confident at all and I hate eye contact. Honestly is there anything more uncomfortable?! But I was determined I was going to ace this. To calm my nerves, I need to be prepared and have a plan. I researched the company, questions I was going to be asked and wrote possible responses and was reading it over literally until I had to leave my house. It kind of helped, even if half the questions I answered weren't on there; but it made me feel better.

I've been trying this new thing called 'Law of attraction' which is basically if you put positive or negative thoughts out into the universe, negativity or positivity experience come back to them. It's a theory I'm really interested in and I'll be honest I feel it's helping me out. Look more into it, it's pretty damn interesting. I've been looking into crystals to, I had two in my bag for my interview. I'll talk all the help I can get and all things like this interest me. I really think it's working for me as a person, I feel... a lot lighter, for lack of better words for explanation.

After doing nothing at all for almost a year, which sounds like a dream but god is it demotivating I found myself feeling pretty lacklustre about well anything and any motivation I had was really at an all time low.
It's funny how getting up early to do the school run for my mum and getting a job really changes your mood. No I'm not jumping for joy that I have to go to work, but who really does?! Its exciting to actually be considering doing all the things I could only dream of a few months ago, I can now make real life plans.

Having a routine and waking up early has really made me feel so much better. I finally feel normal, like I can take on the whole world.  Now that's a bold statement.

Petworth House garden -

The other weekend, I went to Petworth house gardens as a bit of a birthday treat. I love exploring new places. Now I had been there before, but I didn't really get to explore it and I only came home with a poor photo of the deer on my iPhone. So this time I went back with my camera ready to get some photos. I also made a very small vlog featuring a few clips I got of them, it'd be fab if you checked it out!
